Local Life - Rutland
Photo by Ian Dixon, Senior Planner
Rutland is the UK's smallest county with a great deal to offer. Very close to Oakham is Rutland Water, one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe; a sanctuary for wildlife, and great for walkers, bird watchers, cyclists, sailors and fishing.
Rutland has been named as Britain's best rural place to live by the Telegraph newspaper
Oakham is a pretty, traditional English market town with a unique history. With many independent shops, its market place and historical buildings, Oakham offers something for everyone – we even have our own castle!
Just across the border into Lincolnshire, just 12 miles from Oakham, is the town of Stamford, another beautiful market town with lots to offer and a popular choice for employees as a great place to live. Stamford has been voted the number one place to live in the UK by the Sunday Times newspaper.
Located in the East Midlands we are fortunate to have great road and rail links. Catch a train from Oakham and you can be in Central London in 2 hours.
We are also less than 2 hours away from 4 major airports – East Midlands, Birmingham International, London – Stansted and London – Luton.
